Meet the Artist
Where I live, see and feel becomes the subject of my art. Based out of Lucknow for the past eight years, my art has evolved in the observations of nature and society around me- and these two facets are shown as one in my artwork, with the result being almost like research. Living here, I have been fascinated by the River Gomti and its interaction with the urban settlement. While people focus on building more high-rises, its impact on the river systems affects animals, birds and humans alike. Water pollution is another aspect that makes life difficult. Such themes of continuous changes in nature in contemporary times, increasing harming of the environment, the effect on living beings, and specifically fluctuating levels of water all filter into my works, reflecting the outbreak of anger we see all around us in the world. Each new artwork of mine gives expression to new climates, new experiments and dimensions, which I feel constantly seek me out. My paintings regularly show motifs like fish, turtles, frogs, butterflies, trees and birds, besides the slow decrease of water, like emptying emotions, as it dwindles in our world. I do not resist these difficult issues from being the subject of my composition — I try to bring out their beauty in the hue and the density of oil and acrylic colours, or honour their softness in watercolours.
