An extreme level of flood danger was announced in Chennai in December 2015. At that time I was staying in Chennai. I had never seen a situation like that before.

Most of the people in Chennai would not even have seen it. Many people lost their livelihoods, possessions and homes. The main reason for this situation was urban development. Most of the migrants leave their hometowns for work and settled in Chennai.

That is not the only reason for the growing industrial growth. As a result, the city of Chennai is expanding, closing all the lakes and ponds and turning them into residential areas. Therefore, during monsoons like this, lakes, which are water bodies, or surrounded by occupied residential areas without ports.

The government should implement far-sighted plans so that it does not cast any harm to the people during such mess. This work is an expression of the urban
development and life that people should be free from their sense of duty.

Gunasekar Jeyapal

I draw inspiration from my roots in Tamil Nadu, reflecting its culture and traditions in my sculptures.
Observing people and nature, I transform emotions and life experiences into artistic forms.
Migration and adaptation deeply influence my work, as seen in "Life in the City."
Using terracotta, stone, and metal, I create sculptures that embody free emotions and soulful connections.
