This work centers on a coal-filled basket, symbolizing daily labor and livelihood in the coalfield region. The rough texture of coal reflects hardship and endurance. The humble basket represents dignity in work, while the distant landscape connects labor to homeland, where survival, identity, and resilience are deeply intertwined.

Meet the Artist - Arojit Bouri
Arojit Bouri’s practice is shaped by his lived experiences in Asansol and the Raniganj coalfield region. Coal, central to daily life in mining zones, becomes both subject and material in his work. Using coal dust, glue, and Plaster of Paris in mixed media, he builds textured surfaces that reflect the harsh landscape. His practice connects personal memory with collective experience, transforming coalfield realities into layered visual narratives.
