This work is centered on the entrance of an abandoned coal mine, where silence carries a deep history. The dark tunnel symbolizes unknown depths, holding experiences of labor, risk, and uncertainty. Layered soil and coal textures reveal accumulated subterranean time and the marks of continuous extraction. Scattered hammers and coal bags, and coal buckets recall the presence and absence of workers.

Meet the Artist - Arojit Bouri
Arojit Bouri’s practice is shaped by his lived experiences in Asansol and the Raniganj coalfield region. Coal, central to daily life in mining zones, becomes both subject and material in his work. Using coal dust, glue, and Plaster of Paris in mixed media, he builds textured surfaces that reflect the harsh landscape. His practice connects personal memory with collective experience, transforming coalfield realities into layered visual narratives.
