Acoustic Space

I titled this ‘Acoustic Space’. It is derived from my previous series of work on hand gestures. This charcoal drawing views Humanity as being trapped within a self-designed and self-made world system, which enslaves humans to our own standards and beliefs. Intervening the nature and destroying everything by enforcing laws of restrictions, this is what we humans do. I want my viewer to rethink about the old customs and values which cause a hindrance in the natural path of development of humankind.

The artwork depicts an anchored hand hanging from the top of the work, symbolizes restlessness of the humankind, which is nailed to the core of experience and struggle. It also questions the existence of patriarchy and man-made constructed boundaries. I have used hand gesture in a symbolic way to address the complexities of oppression and restrictions on the lives of people on both local and global context by addressing cultural politics and its changing significance about gender, community, caste, class, borders, sexuality and disability. It gives a clear portrayal of artistic, political and social structure of our contemporary society.
