Sonam Jain

The visual perception of my work includes the play of already existing motifs. There is an amalgamation of traditional and modern elements to represent our modern society. Instead of direct representation of reality, I suggest my idea by means of powerful symbols, mainly figures from playing cards. The figures in my work are therefore, not direct imitation from the figures of natural world, but they represent symbolically, the human beings from our natural world. Thus, there is a mixture of ‘real’ and ‘unreal’. In my paintings, the ’KING’ and the ‘QUEEN’ cards are a symbol of authoritarians and; GHULAM’ and puppets are a symbol of oppressed.
