Shimran Chatterjee

My practice began as an intuitive way of processing suppressed emotions shaped by domestic conflict and social expectations around my body and identity. Over time, this evolved into an exploration of vulnerability as a shared human condition. I work with cyanotypes, textiles, and kantha embroidery, drawn to their associations with memory, repair, and storytelling. Moving from paper to fabric introduced both material and emotional softness, allowing stitching to shift from gestures of rupture to rhythms of care. Natural imagery, often interrupted or layered, reflects fragile yet resilient systems. I continue to expand my practice through scale, material experimentation, and locally sourced elements.
